This course will provide students an understanding of how to properly grade trees using the Florida grades and standards. As cities and counties all across Florida are shifting their landscape tree requirements to 50-100% native species, learning to grade and properly select the necessary trees will ensure positive inspection results along with providing more sustainable landscapes including support for wildlife habitat. And guess what? A NEW edition of the grades & standards is about to be published. Learn what's changing now!

This course will provide attendees with an opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of Florida grades and standards related to commonly used native landscape trees. The course will be conducted onsite at a nursery producing large containerized and field-grown native trees. The instructor will demonstrate how to grade multiple different types of native trees, including review of trunk structure, crown uniformity, pruning and root systems. For each tree, the instructor will review all the steps to grade each tree, review the appropriate matrix, determine current grade of the tree and the possibility for corrective pruning. Class participants will then continue grading trees with instructor guidance. FEE: $25 for non-members and members seeking continuing education credits*

*FANN Orchid & Palm members can apply their membership benefit credit to registration.
