Description

Join us for a Zoom meeting with University of Florida/IFAS representatives Claire Lewis and Tom Wichman to discuss the Green Industry Best Management Practices Certification (GI-BMP) and Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Certified Professional (FFLCP) designation.

The GI-BMP program teaches science-based, environmentally safe landscaping practices that help conserve and protect Florida’s water and natural resources.  This training is mandatory for commercial fertilizer applicators to acquire their Limited Fertilizer License from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) (s. 482.1562,F.S.).   The GI-BMP training is available in English and Spanish and can be taken online or in-person.

FFLCP is a voluntary program that provides training to recognize and address common landscape problems and follow FFL’s nine science-based design and management principles and practices to help protect Florida’s water and natural resources. Professionals that complete the training will be listed on the FFL website.

Claire Lewis is the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) Statewide Florida-Friendly Communities Coordinator. Prior to joining the FFL team, Claire earned a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida and worked 12 years for private landscape architecture firms in Gainesville. Design projects included large scale commercial, institutional, and residential home sites. Claire’s current job responsibilities include educational outreach to building professionals and UF/ IFAS Extension Agents across the state to educate Floridians about sustainable landscape practices and encourage builders, developers, and HOAs to implement the Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles in their communities in order to preserve and protect Florida’s water and natural resources. Claire is a native Floridian and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two children.
